But does everyone know what the term means and what it involves? Here we will detail exactly what our circular economy means.

The idea of a circular economy is not exactly recycling or upcycling in the usual sense as these generally involve material being turned into something else before being thrown away. In a circular economy, products are designed from the start with the intention to be remade. That means products can be returned to the maker, who then makes a new product from the old. A circular economy is infinite because by design, the material flows in a loop.

Therefore, new products are made from our old products, which are designed from the start to be sent back when they are worn out. This is the circular economy for clothing.

Waste, Waste & More Waste

According to reports, there are approximately 100 billion new items of clothing produced every year which causes the equivalent of a truck full of clothing to be disposed of, either burned or buried in a landfill every second. This is the "fast fashion" model. Mass production and mass waste. Slowing this process down would help but it won't stop it. When we take the waste products at the end and then start to make new products from it, it changes the whole process to a circular economy.

All Hideous products and packaging are made from natural materials. such as organic cotton (further blog posts will detail our organic cotton process and how water is also recycled in the manufacturing process) and recyclable paper, not plastic, in a renewable energy powered factory. The way we design the products means we can recycle the material without adding polyester. We make new items from the material that is returned. Our products are designed be returned and remade, new from old, again and again and again. A sustainable and ethical process.

Therefore, every item we make is designed to be returned to us when it is worn out in exchange for store credit. Each item that leaves our factory has a QR code on the care label. It takes you to a circular fashion page which contains the instructions on how to return the item. You'll need to know the order number for your items to get started. When we receive your items back to our factory we'll issue the store credit codes to you via the email address you used to place the original order.

So we hope that gives a bit more clarity on what a "circular economy" in fashion actually means, and in particular the Hideous circular economy!

The future is circular

The future is Hideous

Designs with stories.
